Shade Trees

Keep your property cool and reduce utility costs with the beautiful shade trees at Swansea Nursery & Landscaping Supplies. A list of our inventory with the best-sellers on top:

  • River Birch ‘Dura’: 40’ tall, 25’-30’ wide

This beautiful large tree has glossy-green diamond-shaped leaves that turn butter-yellow in the fall. Winter bark is pinkish-orange with a shaggy texture and is very intolerant to shade. They are fast-growing shade tree that flourishes in low wet soils in full sun. The Dura is more tolerant of hot, humid weather than other river birch varieties.

  • Cleveland Pear: 20’-30’ tall, 15’-20’ wide

They are a great step up over Bradford Pears and Aristocrat Pears. Makes a perfect, symmetrical oval shape in a much hardier, stronger tree; however, it is still at risk of getting damage from extreme snow, ice, and wind. In the fall, the leaves turn from a deep green to a dark scarlet red. It tolerates urban conditions and heavy clay soils.

Ornamental Trees

Ornamental trees are commonly smaller in size compared to a normal shade tree and generally flower or have unique foliage. They are a great way to add height, color, and texture to your beds and range widely in terms of maintenance. It is best to do some research or come in with the specifications of your desired placement so we can help you choose the right tree.

  • Dogwood - needs shade from afternoon sun; prefers acidic soil
